Why You Need Your Story

Shannon Crownover, Founder and Master Coach, HER Story

I used to let fear and distrust rule me. I’ve been rejected, bullied and cheated on. I’ve made plenty of bad choices in my life that left me second guessing myself too often. I hid it all behind a “happy” face.

Then, shortly after my marriage failed, I faced losing my children. I had a choice: give up or trust my strength and fight for what mattered most to me. I won, in more ways than one.

In finding and telling my personal story to others, I’ve found healing and unprecedented confidence and I’ve found answers to create the life of love and purpose that I want.

I started HER Story so I could coach women who are at a crossroads just like I was. During these make it or break it moments, through HER Story you’ll learn how to get out of your own way, trust yourself and truly connect with others.

How do I know it works? I’ve been there. I’ve been in a puddle of tears on my bathroom floor locked inside hiding my shame. And even though there’s always more work we can do on ourselves, I’ve busted out of that self imposed prison of distrust and fear. The key that opened the gate was trusting myself enough to write my personal story and share it with others. I’ve coached so many other women and it’s always the same issue if you dig deep enough.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”  ~ Maya Angelou

I’ve invested a lot of time and money on my own self development but I didn’t get the clarity on what my true calling is and how best to set myself up for success until I started working on my personal story. And I didn’t have the wisdom I needed to get my new husband and me out of a rocky patch until I could see the patterns of my past relationships while writing my story. Writing my story saved my relationship with the love of my life. Writing my story has given me the first real career passion of my life. They say that once you learn something, like riding a bike, you can’t unlearn it. I’ll never go back to comfort zone jobs or the hopeless bets of relationship roulette.

Remember, getting all that you want in your career, relationships and contribution to our world lies inside of you. You just need the key to the gate. The key is finding and sharing your personal story.

Whether you’re starting something new or starting over, entering a different phase of life, or wanting to be pulled out of a lull and inspired again, the place to focus first is your personal story. Not the story that you’ve been told about yourself, but your true story. The one about your vulnerabilities and defeats in life and how you overcame them, and your personal values and what matters most to you in this world.

It is that story that makes you fearless and influential, able to make the biggest possible impact for the people and issues you care about most. You’ll be able to connect with anyone, from an audience of 1 to 1000. When you trust yourself and you generously share your story, anything is possible.
